November 22, 2015First there was the shooting in Paris then bombings in our homeland, Nigeria and when we thought, surely it can’t get any worse, hostages were taken in Mali.
I cannot help but think, what’s going on? Why are all these terrible atrocities being committed now? What is wrong with humanity? Are humans just getting more evil by the day or is there a lax in the level of security worldwide? Can we put a stop to this? What if these bombings hit a little too close to where I call home?
And then I thought of you, trying to ensure that you have good health while pursuing your career. You, doing everything and anything possible to uphold the law, ensuring that there is justice for all, and everyone is able to live in a peaceful environment.
The law is what keeps the peace and sanity intact and I believe this same law will ensure that all these atrocities don’t go unpunished. The law will ensure that we smoke out anything and anyone that poses a threat to human existence.
With that in mind, I have a renewed motivation to keep this mails coming and I too like you, want to dwell on the issue of terrorists that can pose a threat to your health.
Like almost any Nigerian, I love spicy, tasty dishes. I ensure that my Jollof rice, Spaghetti, Stew, Oha, Egusi and Banga soup is heavy laden with popular seasoning.
Bottom line, if the seasoning wasn’t noticeable, meaning, I couldn’t taste it at all, I would crossed of that meal as boring, unpleasant and in my books, whoever did the cooking was termed a BAD and TERRIBLE COOK!
Up until recently, I made little or no effort to properly understand what is contained in these delicious seasonings.
I made no attempt to understand what exactly I am feeding my body. My motto used to be…food is food…all join!
Have you ever heard of MSG (monosodium glutamate)? Let’s go back to medical school for a bit.
According to Dr. Barnard a well Known neurologist in the United States, MSG is responsible for a lot of nerve degeneration hence it’s responsible for headaches and pains and in some cases cancers.
Do I repeat that again?
MSGs are responsible for headaches, pains and in some cases, CANCER!
Before you think I am on to one of my crazy assumptions again, I’ll have you know that he actually did a case study on rats and found out that their nerve endings broke down in less than 3 weeks when the MSG substance was introduced into their meals.
Here is another fact. Migraines and Alzheimer’s disease are on the rise. According to Dr. Russell Blaylock. MSG contains excitotoxins which are responsible for nerve damage over time. Prolonged damage of nerves leads to Alzheimer’s disease as nerves are the building blocks of the structure of the brain. A short term cause of this damage to the nerves is experienced as migraines and persistent headaches.
Now this is your reality, a busy professional like you definitely cannot afford to be battling with persistent headaches and pains and memory loss because your profession thrives on a sharp and witty memory.
So your biggest question after this will be, “does that mean I must endure boring meals to remove the MSG threat of memory loss and possible cancer?” and I could reel off a dozen other question that will probably have all the attributes I just outlined in this question.
The answer is YES! Boring meals all the way! Endure it and live long. ….of course you know I am joking. There are alternatives and they are:
- Nutritional yeast (the best substitute for the stock cube)
- Bragg’s amino
- Sea salt
- Vegetable stock cubes
- Seaweed
- Curry
- Basil
- Ginger
- Garlic
- Iru (locust bean)
- Pumpkin
- Turmeric
- Oregano
- Parsley
- Celery
- Onions
- Yellow pepper
- Rodo
- Green pepper
I could go on, but you get the picture. The first five I mentioned, on their own are great seasonings for meals.
The others need to be blended together, for example; garlic, ginger, basil and sea salt make a very nice and tasty blend for soups. Celery, Onions, Rodo and ginger make a nice blend for Jollof rice.
This is where you will need to get creative, but I am giving you more ways to make your meals healthier and remove all possible threats to health. So how about we give this mixtures a try before we write it off as impossible?
I am counting on you. Be safe, be security conscious, if you see something, say something and remain healthy. God Bless
